FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR GREENROUTES, a GREENWAY-BLUEWAY AND GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE P17 AREA

Introduction to our group

Following on from the SECAD My Town My Plan initiative 2019-2020 the group that came together in the area of Kinsale and hinterland (P17 Eircode area) decided on a flagship project to create a physical connection between the different communities in the area.

This would include looking at potential walking and cycling routes in our area and the feasibility and design of a potential Greenway – Blueway which would exemplify our core focus of Care for our wellbeing and our environment and highlight our local heritage and biodiversity (Kinsale & Hinterland Ideas Document).

In doing this we also wish to highlight the potential for Green Infrastructure and protection of special areas of conservation (SAC) and potential SACs, designated National Heritage Areas (NHAs),  proposed NHAs and other areas of  high biodiversity value identified by local biodiversity groups as being critical habitats for certain species of wildlife.

We will also advocate for more pathways within our towns and villages.

A Working Group with representation from each area has been set up and a number of people with special interest and expertise are also on the Steering Committee. Future Kinsale is the lead applicant in our application for funding to SECAD for this initiative.

Establishment of, and consultation with, key stakeholders (County Council, landowners, other community groups) will form part of this Feasibility Study as will a Public Participation Forum.
